Growing Empowerment began in the summer of 2023, thanks to the generous and continued support of the Brookline Community Foundation. The Brookline Teen Center generous serves as the fiscal sponsor.
Growing Empowerment is the culmination of 25 years devoted to teaching social justice and sustainability, mostly at Brookline High School where Roger Grande teaches courses on modern world history, global leadership, and climate science and social change. Roger works in collaboration with colleagues and community members across the District to develop the Brookline Farm-to-School initiative and to make climate change education a core value of our educational system. Roger co-advises the Climate and Food Justice club which nurtures authentic student activism beyond the classroom. Roger firmly believes in the power of planting and harvesting food to build social-emotional resilience, cultivate stewardship of our natural world, and to develop an incisive critique of the injustices embedded in our food system, especially as they intersect with the legacy or colonialism and structural racism. |
